Clyde Refinery Rehabilitation

The Clyde Refinery project was effectively two projects; the first half where we in groups determined what the clyde refinery would be in the future, and how we would get there, the second part was dividing that group project up assigning each member a building project from the design.
For the first part we as a group decided that our focus would be on the rehabilitation of the site, first merely as a means to allow for habitation upon the site but then as a program itself. following our investigations into the clyde refinery and it's position in the context of Parramatta, greater Sydney and the global market. we proposed cleaning the site but also establishing permenant remediation facilites on site including permenant soil washing facilities, Manufacturing of soil solutions, Research/development and education facilities & a start up incubator. We felt that this was a clear need for the site in the immediate time frame but also could serve to give it purpose and provide jobs going foward. To this end we devised a timeline of remediation and occupation that detailed the procedure from it's existing condition to the clean future we planned

This map explores the transportation routes into and around the Camellia Penisula, and the transport times from Camellia to other Points of interest in Sydney.

This map locates shell petrol stations within Sydney, details the supply process, and the issues that the shell refinery encountered.

This maps locates those businesses and industries that have premises on the Clyde peninsula and where else they have premises throughout the greater Sydney area. This information is overlaid with the transportation networks for Sydney specifically road and rail

For the second phase of the studio the groups divided in to several individual projects, for this phase I undertook the design of the Research, Innovation, Tertiary education and Museum facility. The role of this facility was to research, update and refine the remediation techniques and methods employed on site and in other remediation undertakings around Sydney. Additionally a campus of WSU was to be placed on site integrated and working with the Research and development team. The learning experience provided at this campus would be in and around the staff researchers, allowing for a more diverse and interesting learning experience. The museum too moved in around and through the work spaces and university, open for the general public as well as schools it was intended to be a more hands on and interactive place to learn about the process but experience it also.
